Please take a moment to read and pray for these people. 122 days of siege.
In Homs there is an area called “Old Homs” this area has several districts, so it is like the ancient side of my city. It has the olden homes, the ones you see in Arab soaps, the ones tourists pay hundreds to go sleep in, ancient homes with little fountains in the center and open rooftops with beautiful designs, each one costing millions now because of their age and worth. These neighborhoods house the oldest of churches and mosques, so old they are also a sight for tourists. The roads are ancient, old, cracked but beautiful. The roads are so narrow, as back in the day they did not have cars, just horses and donkeys to ride on. These districts house the ancient souq, the “closed roof” souq, now of course “open roof” due to shelling.
I will speak about this 1 area for now, but note the siege has been for 122 days covering the Old Homs districts, Alkhaldiyeh, Alqsoor and Jouret Alshayah with in total, thousands of people [over 800 families] trapped inside, unable to flee. The regime has surrounded for 122 days trying to come in on land and unfortunately as you know if they do enter it will be another “knife” massacre.
The young men of the area, armed themselves and joined the Free Syrian Army to defend their homes, families and especially the women of the area from possible raid and rape/abduction.
This is a defense from your own army, your own government, trying to kill you.
The siege has lasted 122 days, has anyone said anything? No. You may remember me ages ago writing about a friend, a medical student inside sending urgent messages that there are injuries waiting evacuation, their legs and arms rotting as they can’t even amputate them? Remember a good 2 months ago? It’s still going on.
The Red Crescent+Red Cross attempted to reach these areas but it was impossible due to the barbaric constant shelling every single day.
Why is the world not angry? I recall a siege on Gaza and all of us going crazy, I couldn’t sleep! Even the wife of Bashar Al-Assad came on TV and spoke against the siege on Gaza saying “how can you bear to think these children don’t have basic food or milk” .. Where is she now as her husband is doing the same to the children of Homs? Where are the activists who smashed and hit the Israeli embassy now? Where is everyone who shook with anger at the blockade on Gaza? The whole of Homs is suffering, every day we have between 20-25 areas shelled violently, and children and women torn to pieces.
Where is everyone? As a human first, and also as a Muslim you should do your bit. As we know the weakest of faith is du3a, so we should try change wrong with our hand, if not then with our tongue, if not then du3a and that is the weakest of faith.
Have you done the basics? Syria isn’t about arms, of course that is a part of it, but there is a huge need for humanitarian aid and help. Please get in touch if you want to do something, in your school, uni, job or free time.
Pray for Homs, Pray for Syria – The whole of Syria [except a handful of areas] are being shelled, mainly with warplanes, imagine that when you try go to sleep tonight. Close your eyes and imagine any moment a TNT barrel is going to land on your home and blow you apart. OR imagine at any moment a soldier may raid your home, tie your father, rape you before him then leave you and detain your father. Try consider how others feel so if one day it hits us, we have people to pray for us and help us.
