A letter from one of the Karam Alzaytoon coordination heads in Homs 23/02/2012

A letter from one of the Karam Alzaytoon coordination heads in Homs:

Homs is calling, will anyone answer?

From 6:00am this morning the shelling resumed, fierce as usual, on our children destroying our homes especially targeting the activists and hospitals and the centre’s where families have fled to as refugees. The regime is purposefully following a system to burn the land entirely and leave nothing there for anyone. The regime will not leave a man or woman, an elderly person or child.

The humanitarian situation is the worst it has been, the basic human necessities are scarce, all we have left is rock hard bread and it has been a life saver in this situation where the world has ignored our calls. Another important point to take note of is, when I asked one of the young men in Baba Amr who was using a satellite phone to make the call, “what is the situation of milk for the children?” He replied “the water is now only for drinking, no one is allowed to wash or use it for anything else so we save it, so imagine what the milk situation is?”

Now looking at Homs as a whole, all you hear are bombs and explosions here and there, a house on fire and another missile in another area. Karam Alzaytoon and Alrifai neighborhoods as well as Alkhaldiyeh are not any better than Baba Amr as the Assad forces have done all they can to silence the people with shelling and more.

We must note here the attack that took place on the media centre full of activists in Baba Amr that also housed foreign journalists. A clear attack on callers of freedom, a barbaric war on the Syrian people and anyone who stands with the Syrian people. We have constantly asked for urgent help, constantly sent out pleas to the international community to stop this bloodshed, this genocide, this brutal attack on Baba Amr, but no one moved, no one answered.

I hope from my words here I can change people and make them stand by our side, the side of the Syrian people, the people who have committed no crime except asking for freedom…And this is their right…At the end of the day we will never let go of this revolution until we gain victory.

  1. There are many of us trying to get our government’s, the UN, anybody to do something. We stand by you, watching, reading and listening, not knowing your pain, but angry that you have to face it, and angry with our leaders at their inaction. Be brave, stay strong, help will come. In solidarity, Jenny
